- American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA)
AAHA is the only organization that accredits veterinary hospitals, and Oakview is one of 15% of clinics in the country who is accredited according to their strict protocols. For pet care information, click the “Your Pet” option - National Animal Poison Control Center
This is the website of the National Animal Poison Control Center. It includes a library, links to other sites, and phone numbers for the poison control center. - American Heartworm Society

- Feline Diabetes provides information on the diagnosis and treatment of feline diabetes.
- Companion Animal Parasite Council
This is an excellent site discussing parasites from roundworms to ticks. It has regional maps with statistics on parasite prevalence. - FDA Veterinary Recalls
This site lists all recalls for veterinary diets. It may not include voluntary recalls. - Home Again
We use Home Again microchips. Go to this site to update your information. - Hill’s Science Diet Pet Nutrition
We carry Hill’s Science Diet Prescription foods. Go to this site for diet research.
Emergency and Referral Clinics
- University of Wisconsin Madison Veterinary Care is a veterinary teaching hospital staffed with veterinary specialists. It is an amazing resource to have in our state. They are open 24/7 for emergencies.
- Blue Pearl Pet Hospital, Fox Valley is a specialty center in Appleton staffed with Veterinary specialists. They have emergency services as well.
- Homeland Security has good information about pets and emergencies.This is a very good starting place for creating a personal emergency plan that includes pets.
Adopting a Pet
- Portage County Humane Society is our local humane society. Look at their site if you are looking to adopt a pet or want to donate or volunteer.
- Choosing a new pet
The American Veterinary Medical Association website has some great articles on choosing a new pet. Scroll to the bottom of the page for more information on specific types of pets. - Pet Finder is a searchable database of pets for adoption in your area
Behavior/Training
- Dr. Sophia Yin was a veterinarian and acclaimed behaviorist. Her website has great videos and an explanation of her philosophy.
- Dumb Friends League has many articles on various behavior problems.
- Good Bird, Inc has excellent articles for behavior problems in companion birds.
- Clicker training can be you and your pet’s best friend!
- Patricia McConnell is a Certified Applied Animal Behaviorist whose site is full of useful articles.
- Indoor Cat Initiative is a very useful site by Ohio State University Vet School. Full of information for keeping our cat’s safe and happy indoors.
